Selecting Filter Media - 05/19/2025
It is important to discuss your application and environmental factors when choosing the correct filter media for your dust collector. Below is a brief description of the most common cartridge filter choices.
- Nanofiber: High-efficiency for fine dust; good surface filtration, easier cleaning, and longer life. Works well for weld smoke, plasma, laser, buffing.
- PTFE (Teflon): Ideal for sticky, fine, or chemically aggressive dust; excellent release properties and moisture resistance.
- Cellulose/Poly Blend or 80/20: Economical for light dust loads but less durable and not suitable for high moisture or fine dust. Common for general-purpose applications. Works well for grinding, machining, saw metal.
- Spun-bond: Abrasion-resistant for heavy, coarse dust. Works well on composites, cellulose, wood dust, cardboard.
- Treated Spunbond: High strength with good resistance to chemicals. Treated media to be Hydro & Oleophobic. (repels/sheds moisture).
