NFPA-Compliant Combustible Dust Collection Systems

Fugitive manufacturing dusts represent a severe hazard across modern chemical processing, metalworking, and woodworking facilities. When fine, airborne particles accumulate in a confined space at a specific concentration, they create an environment highly susceptible to rapid combustion or deflagration. "An additional two elements must be present for a combustible dust explosion: Dispersion of dust particles in sufficient quantity and concentration; and, Confinement of the dust cloud." -- [OSHA]. If this ignition event takes place inside an unmitigated dust collector or machine enclosure, the resulting containment failure can cause a catastrophic explosion with devastating facility damage and life-threatening consequences.

The Gold Standard: HYDROMAX® Wet Dust Collectors

To achieve strict regulatory compliance and eliminate fire or explosion pathways, wet scrubbing is the industry's preferred solution. The Micro Air HYDROMAX® Series is a fully patented, NFPA-compliant line of wet dust collectors engineered to neutralize volatile materials. By drawing airborne particulates through an engineered liquid bath, it safely traps and saturates high-risk explosive metal fines, including:

  • Aluminum
  • Titanium
  • Magnesium

Engineered Safeguards for Dry Cartridge Dust Collection

For processes where moisture is chemically reactive or impractical, Micro Air integrates advanced proactive and reactive mitigation hardware into our industrial dry cartridge collector lines. Our premium FRP FORCE™ Cartridge Collectors utilize a smooth, ledge-less internal geometry designed to minimize hazardous dust accumulation.

To protect your workforce and satisfy NFPA 660 Chapter 22 code requirements, our dry systems can be optioned with full explosion protection accessories:

  • Explosion Relief Vents: Safely channels overpressure blast waves outward to designated safe areas.
  • Fast-Acting Isolation Dampers: Prevents a deflagration flame front from traveling backward through the intake ductwork into the plant floor.
  • Active Chemical Suppression Systems: Detects the earliest stages of an explosion pressure rise and instantly quenches the flame.
  • Integrated Spark Arrestors: Uses passive baffle design to extinguish hot sparks and airborne embers before they reach the main filter media

Request an Expert Dust Hazard Analysis

Designing an effective dust management protocol requires specialized engineering knowledge. Micro Air’s factory-trained network of Engineered Systems Distributors will conduct a precise application assessment, evaluate your material risks, and configure a custom air filtration layout engineered to meet all local safety codes, OSHA enforcement guidelines, and insurance requirements
